Fulfilment

Fulfilment

Fulfilment!   Everyone wants it but most people never achieve it. So, here we are rapidly approaching another year’s end, with a holiday season to appreciate and enjoy with family and friends and a fresh new year waiting to greet us. But if you feel unfulfilled and chained by the ankle to your life situation, business or career and if you've said to yourself, "There's got to be more to life than this grindstone," then now is the time to consider what you'd like to have happen instead for more fulfilment and success. Last Friday, I was stressing about a couple of projects that were still incomplete. I have engaged the service of someone to help me implement and complete these and it really isn't going as well as expected. So, I was feeling very frustrated and developed enough tension in my shoulders and neck to create a migraine.Resting and using yoga techniques to relax my tense muscles, I started to think about my...

Cheer Up You’re Gifted

Cheer Up You’re Gifted

Cheer Up - she wanted to feel better but what could make her cheer up?   This is how it all started... I opened the email and there was a short note saying: “I haven't seen you for ages but I do see your various posts etc. with interest. I am contacting you because unfortunately I am ill with cancer and am having chemo. I know I would benefit from yoga practice (including pranayama) but I don't want to go to classes because of the infection risk, and I have been struggling with practising on my own. Apart from low energy levels and being quite unfit by now (I have been ill for some months) I am doing Ok. I'd also like to see you as I am sure you would be able to offer some wise counsel and support...” I paused. I was taken aback. I let this information soak in for a few hours and then called and we discussed how I...

Compassion and The Wicked Witch of the North

Compassion and The Wicked Witch of the North

Compassion – you may think you know what it is but do you really?  I didn't... Once upon a recent time, I worked with the Wicked Witch of the North. She was captivating, charming, funny and lived in the North of the country. She also has a sharp wit and was very clever in her use of words and communication. People liked her and we had a good laugh. However, working closely with her, I also experienced her Wicked Witch of the North side. This side of her was backbiting and bitchy. She bitched about and found fault with everyone - behind their backs. She would go into military sergeant mode and bark orders and try cunning ways to get what she wanted. And when that didn't work switch into trying to bully people who were not under her spell. Her way of doing things was the best way and she was always right. Maybe you know a Wicked Witch of the North? The...

Choice: Pneumatic Drilling v Moving into Stillness

Choice: Pneumatic Drilling v Moving into Stillness

Choice. It looked like we only had Hobson's choice. Taking it or leaving it. This was the option Thomas Hobson (1544–1631), a livery stable owner in Cambridge, England, offered his customers - either taking the horse in his stall nearest to the door or taking none at all. Our choice was accepting the Pneumatic drilling sound that filled the room or leaving. OMG, I thought, as I opened the door and entered. The sound was HORRIFIC. I reacted to it and felt irritated. We need quiet for our yoga practice, I said to myself. My next thought was if this is going to go on for an hour, perhaps I should cancel the yoga class. Then I said a big “NO.” We are all here for yoga and that is what we will do, pneumatic drilling or no drilling. I knew from experience that it was just a case of accepting that the drilling sound was there and I could use...

Awareness – Who You are Being?

Awareness – Who You are Being?

My awareness shifted as suddenly there was a loud bang. Standing at the bus top, I looked in the direction of the sound and saw a black motorcycle, a large black people carrier vehicle and the bottom half of two legs wearing black boots disappearing behind the left side of the vehicle as it screeched to a standstill. I gasped: 'Oh my god'. And together with the six or so other people at the bus stop, I instinctively moved towards the scene of the accident. I thought this person was either dead or seriously injured. Seconds went by... Then I saw the motor cyclist who had been thrown off his bike and had disappeared from view behind the people carrier vehicle walking towards the driver (who had stopped and jumped out of his vehicle looking shocked) gesticulating angrily. We sighed with relief...He was alive. A few comments were made and I went on my way again. Sitting on the bus, I felt tearful. This surprised...

Success Formula of Top World Athletes

Success Formula of Top World Athletes

Success many thrive but top world athletes have a formula for becoming winners.  Here are 6 elements of their formula from the IAAF World Athletics Championships inspired by all the athletes competing including some of the legends of the sport, such as Usain Bolt and Mo Farah. Some athletes have to overcome physical and mental challenges and others make totally life changing choices in order to achieve the success they want. A few are seen as sporting pariahs and endure booing from spectators whenever they perform or win because of past misdemeanours.  This does not deter them and they keep focusing on their dream without allowing other people's opinions to become obstacles. The point is that people do all kinds of things to become successful. And like top athletes, when you thrive to become the best YOU, to do your best and to realise your dreams, there is rarely one path to success and becoming a winner. You're likely to need a variety of...

Jaws – Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Jaws – Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Jaws, remember the film from 1975  where the shark's presence is mostly suggested by employing an ominous  soundtrack that signals the shark's impending appearance and the possibility of death. Well many people say that they are more afraid of public speaking than dying.  Being visible on stage is so scary that it fills people with dread. I think what they are really afraid of is being ridiculed, rejected, disliked, humiliated, booed...or having their creations treated in this way. Let me tell you a story... A few weeks ago sitting on the ground in the park, I noticed that the right side of my jaw was tense and felt locked. I have what I call a 'spontaneous body wisdom' jaw routine that my body initiates to relieve this tension. It involves simply taking my attention to my jaw, focusing my awareness there and then just waiting for my body to respond. The response always comes and involves contorted facial movements – with the upper and lower...

Sleep Deprived? The Secret to Sleeping Well

Sleep Deprived? The Secret to Sleeping Well

Sleep deprivation can take a toxic toll on your health and ability to function optimally. And - with an annual estimated price tag of £40 billion cost to the economy through lost working hours, it's not a subject to take lightly. We all know that health and lifestyle problems such "obesity, excessive alcohol and sugary drink consumption, smoking, lack of physical activity, mental health problems, stress at work, shift work, financial concerns, and long commuting" have a detrimental  impact on sleep - this is already well documented. However, a recent article published in the Telegraph.co.uk reports on research  by US scientists who found that "the secret of a good night’s sleep is having something worth getting out of bed for the next day." The new study reveals that having a purpose in life helps to improve the quality of your sleep and also night time disturbances. Quoting from the Telegraph, the authors state that: “Helping people cultivate a purpose in life could be an...

Space and The Whirly Gig Experience

Space and The Whirly Gig Experience

I was hanging sideways in space anchored in the Whirly gig chair, in mid-air with Shaun Hotchkiss at ground level asking me Power of Six questions. “ And what do you know from there.” My eyes were closed as I focused on my body-mind to discover what it knew from that direction. After a while, my body intuition and wisdom indicated that I was feeling relaxed and at ease in the space my body was occupying. Then, self-modelling, I asked to be moved to the opposite side. Now, I am suspended sideways to the left instead of to the right. I tune into my body intuition and I am feeling a different sensation. I'm not sure how to describe the sensation yet so I keep my attention and awareness focused on it. “And what do you know from there?” I keep my awareness on my body-mind system hanging in space. It feels like my fears are to my left, I said. I want...

Authentic, original and not a copy?

Authentic, original and not a copy?

Authentic, original and not a copy. This is required of us and can be challenging. “I've not been writing my blogs”, she said, “because so many people are doing blogs, and people tell me I write eloquently and I don't feel I'm saying anything unique. So, I've just not been writing...” We were doing a life purpose hand analysis at the time and were talking about purpose and gifts. Most of us engage in unhelpful self-talk some of the time...our inner critic that can be totally unsupportive. My self talk goes something like this...how can I talk/write about shifts in consciousness and finding yourself and spiritual matters when you have the enlightened masters like Eckhart Tolle and Sadhguru and yoga masters and famous spiritual teachers like Marianne Williamson, Caroline Myss and many other 'experts' talking about the same things. How can little old me do this in an authentic way? What's your inner critic telling you, that's getting in your way? There's a quote that...
